On the peak of the Otz mountain, the eponymous fortification from the late 12th and early 13th centuries towers over the town of Hering. Historically, the town and fortifications are closely linked. The town’s history began around 1244 as a castle workers settlement of Castle Otzberg. After an eventful history of changing owners and violent wars, the fortress was used as a prison in the 18th century. Today, vacationers find a museum, registry office and castle tavern in Veste Otzberg. In addition, between the ring wall and the Romanesque castle keep many events are regularly held, including concerts and markets.

German Ivory Museum Erbach
The German Ivory Museum Erbach (Deutsches Elfenbeinmuseum Erbach) is a museum in Erbach im Odenwald . It was founded in 1966, but the collection was started byCount Francis in the late 18th century. The city of Erbach then developed to become one of the centres for ivory carving
The museum exhibition consists of more than two thousand items that represent European, African, Asian, and Greenlandic ivory carving art from the Middle Ages to the present day. One of the focuses is the work of ivory carvers in the Odenwald area in the 19th and 20th centuries, for example Jan Holschuh
In early 2006, the museum was modernised and extended. Other ivory museums in this region are the privately owned Ivory Museum Michelstadt and the church-owned Ivory Museum Walldürn.
Burg Frankenstein, Mühltal, Germany
South of Darmstadt stands Burg Frankenstein, whose name achieved fame above all through Mary Shelley’s popular novel Frankenstein. Burg Frankenstein was first documented in 1252, but the year of its construction is uncertain. The castle was named for the aristocratic Frankenstein family, which inhabited it for many centuries. The various parts of the castle were built in very different epochs and lend the structure a unique appearance. The most recent section of the castle houses a restaurant with a panorama terrace. Situated on the 370-meter high branch of the Langenberg, the Spornburg offers a broad view over the Rheine valley.

The construction of the Ernst-Ludwig-Haus started in 1900 after the plans of Joseph Maria Olbrecht. The house served as a community workshop for the Darmstadt artists' colony. Left and right of the entrance can the two six metre high figures "husband and wife" or "power and beauty" of the artist Ludwig Habich be seen. The artists' colony, a living and working community, was founded in 1899 by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig to bring new stimulations and creative effects into the underdeveloped industry of Hesse. Nowadays you will find the Museum Artists' Colony in the Ernst-Ludwig-House, which shows the history and the body of work of the artists.

In the midst of Darmstadt city center, next to the Luisenplatz, the City Carrée begins. The district with more than 40 shops and cozy cafes and bars was built in the mid-1990s to revitalize the downtown area - and successfully! The square Luisenplatz is the centre of the city - and is thus best suited as a starting point for your exploration of the city. Those who enter the place look inevitably to the 39-meter-high column, popularly known as "Langer Ludwig". The monument was build in honor of the Grand Duke Ludwig I, who passed in 1820 the first constitution of Hesse. On the first Saturday of each month - from April to October - visitors can climb to the observation deck at the height of 30 metres and enjoy the view. On the north side of the square you will find the oldest office building in Darmstadt, the Kollegienhaus. Today it serves as the seat of the regional council.

Römische Villa Haselburg
Die Römische Villa Haselburg war ein Gutshof (sogenannte Villa rustica) aus der Zeit der Besiedlung des Odenwalds durch die Römer. Die nach archäologischen Ausgrabungen in weiten Teilen sichtbare Anlage in der Nähe der Ortschaft Hummetroth bei Höchst im Odenwald in Hessen ist als Freilichtmuseum gestaltet und frei zugänglich.
Die Villa rustica „Haselburg“ gehört zu den mehreren hundert bekannten Gutshöfen aus der Römerzeit in Hessen. Sie ist die bislang größte bekannte und am weitesten durch Grabungen erforschte Anlage dieser Art.
